After the leftfield success of the mysterious, enigmatic Twin Peaks, David Lynch returned to television in 1992 with On the Air, a situation comedy (of all things) centered on the backstage hijinks on the set of a 1950s variety show. Unsurprisingly, Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost put an eccentric spin on the tired TV format, mixing surrealism and slapstick to great effect. Although seven episodes were filmed, only three were aired by ABC.
